SolidCAM®, the leading CAM system running in SolidWorks® 3D CAD software, and ModuleWorks GmbH, a leading supplier of CAD/CAM components for 5-axis machining, are celebrating five years of successful partnership. Five-axis machining is a metalworking technique used in aerospace, the energy industry, and mould making.
In 2003, seeing the growing demand for 5-axis machining and recognizing its technical challenges, SolidCAM decided to partner with ModuleWorks to provide a best-in-class 5-axis CAD/CAM solution. Initial integration and training led to the official launch of a simultaneous-5-axis module in SolidCAM2004 R9, which was very well received by the market. Over the past five years, SolidCAM has become established as a major player in 5-axis machining, and has expanded its technology beyond milling, adding support for 5-axis wood manufacturing, 5-axis trimming, 5-axis drilling, and 5-axis laser cutting.
ModuleWorks was a young company in 2003, with some highly advanced technology but only a handful of partners to help make it available to users. Since then, the company has grown steadily. Its software components for machining and simulation now are used by 50% of the leading CAM vendors.
ModuleWorks managing director Yavuz Murtezaoglu says, We have always worked very closely with SolidCAM. Their input and support has helped ModuleWorks 5-Axis develop into the powerful software that many people benefit from today.
Notes Dr. Emil Somekh, SolidCAM’s managing director, in explaining the integration of ModuleWorks into SolidCAM, In a field as technically challenging as CAM, it is impossible to be the masters of everything. Five-axis machining is one of those areas where a specialist supplier is able to provide a much more powerful and complete solution than could possibly be developed in-house. |
