Stuart Carlin is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MachineTools.com. He has a 15-year track record of building multiple successful companies in diverse industries.
Carlin's creative zeal and passion for achievement immersed him in early entrepreneurial pursuits. Stuart received an accounting degree from the University of Illinois at Champagne/Urbana, and worked in finance and operations at Ernst and Young and Playboy Enterprises. He started his first business in 1988, placing vending machines in fraternities and sororities, his sophomore year of college.
In 1994, On the Go Concessions, a company he started that operated food and beverage carts throughout the Chicago lakefront area, was his second venture and a great success. During a three year period, Carlin built the company to 120 employees and 25 locations, including the Shed Aquarium and Oak Street Beach.
Stuart's innovative vision and desire to fill unmet needs led him to the metalworking industry. After learning the metalworking (aka Machine Tool) business, Carlin started two ventures - On the Go Machinery (1996), a company specializing in machinery brokerage, and Xchange (1995), a direct fax and email marketing company serving the metalworking industry. It was during his time running Xchange that he built the industry's largest proprietary database of machine tool end-users with more than 200,000 unique contacts.
Stuart's experience with Xchange is what served as the catalyst to fill an unmet niche in the billion dollar machine tool industry. MachineTools.com, conceived in 1998 and online in 1999, quickly grew to a million dollar business. A marketplace for new and used machines, tooling, auctions, wanted listings, jobs postings, and more, MachineTools.com also includes the most comprehensive searchable database of companies in the industry.
A truly global business with customers from 160 countries, MachineTools.com is the largest machinery and tooling website in the world. Today, MachineTools.com has over 225,000 registered users, 250,000 monthly visitors and 70,000 listings for sale.
