Specifications
- Model No. KEM 500 WERA “CNC” Gear Tooth Chamfering Machine, suitable for

the precise chamfering, rounding, pointing, deburring, of gears and pinions, and most

especially, bevel gears, of virtually any profile, up to 19.6” (500mm) diameter
Serial No. 90025 (New in 2001)
The machine corresponds generally to the attached copy of factory literature, featuring the following:
EQUIPMENT / FEATURES:
• machine of compact design with full work enclosure, with safety interlock

service door and pneumatic operator door loading/loading
• directly driven, high-speed milling/cutter spindle, (B-Axis), employing

standard pencil-type milling cutters, disc-type grinding/deburring wheels,

as well as brush-type wheels for any chamfering/deburring operation

with sensor for precise angular positioning for gear tooth chamfer.
• Central swiveling of the cutter-spindle assembly (A-Axis) via gear and

servo-motor drive (maximum field of rotation 110˚)
• Feed of the cutting tool (X-Axis) assembly via servo-motor
• Transverse motion of the cutting tool assembly (Y-Axis) via servo-motor
• Direct drive of work-table (C-Axis) via servo-motor
• Vertical motion of the cutting tool (Z-Axis) via servo-motor

• SIEMENS 840D CNC control in 6-Axis execution with & color CRT and menu

driven software enabling programmed determination of any desired tooth profile

for a variety of chamfering/deburring operations for both straight spur and helical

gears, straight bevel gears, and/or GLEASON or KLINGELNBERG-OERLIKON cut

spiral bevel gears
Software enables the machine operator to create a profile for one single tooth

made of points along which the tool-path is developed. Afterwards, the single

tooth profile data enables the complete automatic chamfering and work-piece

indexing, repeating the same tool-path for all of the gear teeth

CNC control includes the facility for importing the desired point profile by importing

CAD/CAM generated files or by “teach-in” system.
Software features different M-functions that can be enabled upon request

according to customer’s specific needs, including the following:

o continuous chamfering and deburring with the synchronization

of tool and work-piece motions

o cylindrical interpolation for continuous straight tooth toe rounding

o drilling along free or matrix patterns

o brushing for secondary burr removal

o polynomial correction of chamfering profile

o part-program backup and restore operations

o work-piece eccentricity correction

• work-piece clamping via pneumatic 3-jaw chuck

• power forced lubrication system for all working elements

monitored via the CNC

• air-conditioned electrical switch-gear cabinet

• full complement of electrics (motors/controls)
