The Honor Seiki VL-160C and 160CM (Live Tool) Vertical Turning Center is a large, high precision, heavy duty turning center with an extra wide dual vertical column and base composed of meehanite casting. This heavily ribbed structure reduces thermal distortion and vibrations during Heavy cutting. The VL-160 series is built for heavy duty turning of medium size work pieces weighing up to 22,600 lbs. The heavy duty spindle construction is designed to incorporate an oversized high precision 27.5” diameter “Cross Roller” Timken® bearing. The 60 HP (75 HP optional) Fanuc high torque spindle motor transmits 15,800 ~ 23,000 Newton Meters of torque to the spindle through a heavy duty 2 speed oversized gearbox providing ample amount of power for heavy duty machining. The X and Z axes are of a box way design utilizing “Turcite B” applied to the mating surfaces, they are precision hand scraped to ensure a highly accurate way system. The precise forced lubrication system of the ways and direct drive class “C3” ball screws assures high precision during heavy duty machining. The cross rail (see detailed photo) is programmable in four (4) 7.87” increments for a total of 31.5”. Each position has ground pads where the crossrail rests/positions, it is hydraulically pinned with 3” stainless steel pins (both sides) to hold the crossrail repeatable within .0005” The oversized Z axis ram is made from German high alloy steel with four gibbed ways, the drive end of the RAM incorporates a curvic coupling and T-type pull stud for an extremely rigid tool clamping system. The patented curvic type clamping system with T-Bar style draw bar provides over 14 tons of clamping pressure. The square ram design has 8.66” x 8.66” (10” optional) with 35.4” travel on Z axis and 31.4” travel on the W axis elevating beam.
