This lower cost OD grinder consists of one 11KW grinding spindle, which can be swiveled manually parallel or perpendicular to the workpiece axis. This way the machine can be used for endwork on blanks, as well as peel-grinding of steps with limited length.
This compact machine with 3 axes kinematics is built on a 45° slant bed polymer concrete base. The water-cooled grinding spindle can be equipped with 3 wheels up to 350mm diameter. Depending on the clamping system, the work head spindle can handle parts up to 32mm diameter and swallow up to 320mm length for end working. One example for this configuration is the preparation of carbide drill blanks for grinding between centers. Point, chamfer and coolant hole connection slot are ground in two clampings. The axial position of the part, as well as the location of the coolant holes are detected by a probe. In addition, parts can be loaded in the chuck against a stop for grinding to an exact length.
